Tallia Hart Named to Executive Committee for Western Association of Chamber Executives and President-Elect for Southern California Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives
IRVINE, Calif., (January 7, 2016) – The Irvine Chamber of Commerce today announced that Tallia Hart, president and CEO of the Chamber, was selected to serve as vice chair on the executive committee of the Western Association of Chamber Executives (W.A.C.E.) for the 2016 program year and chair of the 2017 W.A.C.E. annual conference to be held in LA. In addition, Hart was named president-elect for the Southern California Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (S.C.A.C.C.E.) and will serve as the organization’s president in 2017.

The John Colvin Memorial Scholarship remembers and celebrates John Greg Colvin, a long-time Orange County resident and key Chamber leader who was killed June 17, 2014 when his bicycle was struck by a car along Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Beach. IRVINE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF SKILLS GAP ANALYSIS FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES
Research Reveals Demand for Greater Communication, Leadership and Other Soft Skills in Today’s Workforce
IRVINE, Calif.—October 27, 2014— The Irvine Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Vitality Council (EVC), announced the findings from a skills ‘gap’ analysis designed to identify what training and skills are needed for future workers to compete for jobs within Irvine’s advanced manufacturing sector. According to the study, HR and recruiting executives from local companies — ranging from aerospace, mechanical engineering, pharmaceutical to software design — revealed the top factors in the gap between what the candidate brings to the job and what the position requires.
The survey identified that the lack of candidates’ practical real-life job experience and soft skills, including communication, team work, project management, problem solving and leadership traits, make open positions more challenging to fill. The majority of companies interviewed stated that most of the jobs require at least a four-year degree with accompanying, relevant technical training. Between 80 to 100 percent of positions require technical skills, and respondents cited that their ideal candidate will have three to seven years of hands-on experience. Yet, only half of the responding companies said they have internships or apprenticeship programs in place or connections with colleges and universities. Continue reading

(July 15, 2014) –TriTech Small Business Development Center (SBDC), an economic development program serving innovation-driven enterprises in Orange County and the Inland Empire, announced that as a result of its collaboration with the Irvine Chamber of Commerce, the group has successfully worked with 51 Irvine small businesses helping to generate more than $13 million in economic impact ($8 million in Capital and $5 million in increased sales); plus 105 jobs were created and 58 jobs were retained. TriTech SBDC began partnering with the Irvine Chamber of Commerce in 2013 in an effort to support innovation driven entrepreneurs and small business owners in the City of Irvine. Continue reading
