IRVINE PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION CHAIR BETTY CARROLL ANNOUNCES RUN FOR IRVINE UNIFIED SCHOOL BOARD
Endorsed by Seven Current and Past School Board Members
IRVINE, CA – Irvine parent, local business owner, and IPSF Chair Betty Carroll announced today that she is running for the Irvine Unified School Board in the upcoming November 2016 General Election.
“I am running for the Irvine Unified School District School Board to fight for our children in the face of reduced state funding and evolving education standards,” said Carroll. “As the parent of two young children in the district, and as a taxpayer, I want our children to receive a world-class education for years to come. We must ensure the continued excellence of our schools, work to reduce student-teacher ratios, maximize tax dollars spent, and retain our high caliber teachers.”
Raised in Orange County, Carroll attended public schools from elementary school through college. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in English from UC Santa Barbara, and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. Carroll practiced business law for several years in New York before returning home.
“Betty is the perfect choice to fill my seat on the School Board this November,” said Michael Parham, the 12-year veteran School Board member who is not running for reelection this year. “I fully endorse her and ask my supporters, fellow School Board Members, and neighbors to join with me. With her city-wide experience on the IPSF Board and the IUSD Education Advisory Committee, and her extensive involvement at her neighborhood school, she is truly the perfect candidate to succeed me on the School Board.”
Carroll currently serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of Irvine Public Schools Foundation. IPSF is the primary fundraising arm of the school district and provides over $4 million in educational funding each year to local schools.
“Not only is Betty an Irvine business owner, she is an active parent who gives countless hours of her time to our schools,” said Connie Stone, Measure E Chair and outgoing President of the Irvine Council PTA, the governing body of all Irvine school PTAs. “Betty understands the challenges facing our schools because she’s worked to address them for years. She is well- rounded and her dedication and volunteer efforts at the local school level are incredible. I am thrilled she is running as she is simply the most qualified candidate and would be an outstanding School Board member.”
Carroll’s local school experience includes School Site Council Member, PTA First Vice President, Vista Verde Foundation Board Member, Fourth District Sacramento Safari, Room Parent, and her personal favorite, Classroom Volunteer in her children’s classrooms.
Carroll’s list of endorsements includes educational, community, and business leaders and is led by current School Board members Mike Parham, Lauren Brooks, and Ira Glasky, and former School Board members Mayor Steven Choi, Carolyn McInerney, Margie Wakeham, and Hank Adler.
Betty Carroll lives, works, and is raising her family in Irvine. She has two young children attending IUSD schools. Her husband, Michael, is Chairman of the City of Irvine Community Services Commission.
