In the month of January, Huntington Park Police Detectives were assigned to investigate a domestic violence case which occurred in the City of Huntington Park. During the investigation, Detectives discovered that the victim had a restraining order against the suspect. Since the filing of the crime report, the suspect made numerous attempts to contact the victim. Investigators made efforts to locate the suspect; however, he managed to avoid capture.
On February 29, 2016, the victim sent the handling detective a message informing him that the suspect was with her. Huntington Park Detectives ultimately received information that the victim was being held against her will by the suspect. Through the use of department resources, Officers discovered that the victim was possibly in the City of Buena Park. The City of Buena Park Police Department was notified of the circumstances and they started an area check for the victim and the suspect vehicle. Buena Park Police Department located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a high risk stop on the vehicle. The suspect (driver) refused to yield and led Buena Park Police Officers on a pursuit through several freeways in both Los Angeles and Orange Counties. The suspect vehicle finally stopped in the City of Newport Beach, where he barricaded himself and kept the victim and her two small children (ages 6 &1) against their will.
At the time of the vehicle barricade, the California Highway Patrol was the lead agency, and Newport Beach assisted with containment of the surrounding area. Huntington Park Police Detectives also assisted with Crisis Negotiations (CNT) and intelligence information. After several hours of unsuccessful attempts to get the suspect to safely surrender, the victim and children exited the vehicle. Simultaneously, the suspect exited the vehicle and ran up a hill and managed to escape.
A containment was established of the area and a systematic search was conducted. At one point during the search, the suspect was spotted by officers on a trail. Search teams spent several hours searching the gated community; however, they had no success in locating the suspect. At the time of this report, the search and investigation are ongoing.
Huntington Park Police Detectives were assisted by the California Highway Patrol, Newport Beach and Irvine Police Departments.
The suspect is identified as: Thomas Ueno, a male, Hispanic, 35 year of age, 5’07”, 175 lbs., brown hair (shaved head) and brown eyes. Ueno has multiple tattoos that are visible on his neck and arms. He was last seen wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, dark blue pants and a red baseball cap. The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous as he has been known to be in possession of firearms.
