Irvine, CA – The Irvine Police Department has arrested a suspect for drug and theft-related crimes. Jonathan Chen, 24, of Irvine, was arrested for multiple violations including possession of controlled substances for sale, identity theft, possession of a stolen firearm and driving under the influence of drugs.
At approximately 7:00 p.m. on Feb. 14, 2016, a patrolling Irvine Police officer observed a 2016 Dodge Challenger stopped in traffic and obstructing a turn-lane at Irvine Center Drive and Fontaine. The male driver was slumped over and passed out at the wheel. Officers contacted Chen and determined he was driving under the influence of drugs.
In a subsequent search of the suspect’s vehicle, Chen was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm, which had been reported stolen in a residential burglary in Los Angeles County. The suspect was also found in possession of a scale and methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and various pills in saleable quantities.
Officers also determined Chen’s vehicle was a rental car that had been rented using a stolen credit card.
