SANTA ANA, Calif. – From December 16 through January 14, 2016, landscape photographs by Irvine resident Leonard Myszynski are on display at John Wayne Airport (JWA) as part of JWA’s Community Focus Space Program. The photographs can be viewed on the Departure (upper) Level near security screening areas in Terminals A, B and C, and on the Arrival (lower) Level adjacent to Baggage Carousels 1 and 4.
While filming his documentary in Orange County, Modjeska-Woman Triumphant, Leonard Myszynski was inspired by the physical worlds inhabited by Orange County’s first international celebrity and stage actress Madame Helena Modjeska, the places of tranquility that inspired her Shakespearean creations. Myszynski’s still images showcase Orange County locales and textures through a ground glass vintage camera perspective.
More images can be seen here.
“In these places I witnessed her beauty, sweet melancholy, mystery and love for the land she wished to preserve,” states Myszynski. “These stylized photographs depict my impressions of the world Modjeska touched over a century ago in her beloved Orange County and the influence of Mother Nature on her art.”
Poland native, Leonard Myszynski was introduced to fine art photography by his father. While attending the Polish National Film Academy, he began experimenting with cinema verite, feature shorts and documentaries using the first reflex mirror shutter 35 Arriflex cameras built in the 1930’s. Together with his filmmaking partner and wife Basia, they formed sOlar eye communications, an Irvine based photography and film production company. Myszynski’s award-winning images and cinematography have been exhibited at SOKA University, and American Photographic Artists, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.
Upcoming Community Focus Space Program artists include Susie Stockholm (January 14 – February 16) and Thom Surman (February 16 – March 16). To learn more about JWA’s Art Programs, visit www.ocair.com/terminal/artexhibits.
