Kristen Michelle Roush, 34, Aliso Viejo, a former eighth-grade teacher at La Paz Intermediate School, was cleared of child molestation charges Friday after she agreed to admit to a misdemeanor battery charge and to resign her teaching position, according to the O.C. Register.
Roush was arrested on Friday, October 24, 2014, by Orange County Sheriff’s investigators following a several month long investigation involving an alleged inappropriate relationship she had with a male juvenile student.
Orange County Sheriff’s Department investigators were contacted in July, 2014, after the male juvenile victim’s parents became concerned over what they perceived as an inappropriate relationship between their juvenile son and Roush. Several witnesses were interviewed and evidence was obtained from both the victim and teacher’s cell phone. Based on information obtained from various methods of communication, investigators believe Roush had an inappropriate relationship with the student victim.
Roush her attorney David Wohl fought the charges for almost a year.
Wohl told the O.C. Register that “We investigated this case extensively and found that the child that admitted to lying to his mother regarding certain issues. He made claims that she kissed him that were simply and totally untrue and were never going to be proven in a court of law.”
Wohl added that “She plead guilty to misdemeanor count of battery. Theoretically it’s a possibly that a student was offended when she hugged him, which is all she ever did.”
Roush was facing three years in prison for each molestation charge that was dropped. She has resigned from her teaching job at La Paz Intermediate School and was sentenced to three years’ probation. She is not planning on returning to teaching.
