Irvine, CA – A man observed by an off-duty Irvine Police Department (IPD) detective has been arrested for burglary after being found in possession of stolen property. The suspect has been identified as Rory Scott Campbell, 27, of Newport Beach, and has been booked in the Orange County Jail.
At approximately 8:45 p.m. on July 30, 2015, an off-duty IPD detective observed a known suspect enter The Rinks facility on Barranca Parkway and enter the locker rooms. Campbell was a suspect for several other burglaries that had occurred at the same location over the past several weeks.
The off-duty detective called on-duty IPD patrol officers, who immediately responded to the scene and made contact with the suspect as he was exiting the facility. Campbell was detained and found in possession of an iPhone, which he had just stolen from the locker room. The suspect had addition evidence, such as clothing worn in previous crimes, in his vehicle.
Based on the investigation, IPD detectives believe there may be additional victims. Anyone with information or who thinks they have been a victim is encouraged to contact IPD Detective Kristi Valentine at 949-724-7188.
