Irvine, CA – The Irvine Police Department (IPD) is investigating a fatal traffic collision.
At approximately 9:00 p.m. on June 10, 2015, a three-vehicle traffic collision occurred at the intersection of Muirlands Boulevard (where it becomes Barranca Parkway) and Alton Parkway.
In a white Chevy Cruze, two adult women were driving with two young children. The 54-year-old driver succumbed to her injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her name is being withheld pending identification by the Coroner. The second adult woman and both children were transported to area hospitals by the Orange County Fire Authority, and they remain in serious condition.
An adult woman was the sole occupant in a black Honda Civic and was transported to an area hospital for her injuries. She has since been released.
The suspect was driving a black Ford Mustang and fled the scene on foot. IPD officers and an Irvine K-9 searched the area for the suspect with helicopter assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) and California Highway Patrol. OCSD also assisted with two bloodhounds, and the Tustin Police Department assisted with a K-9.
The investigation into the circumstances of the crash and the search for the suspect are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call IPD Detective Jonathan Cherney at 949-724-7024.
Due to the critical nature of this incident, motorist access to the intersection will be significantly restricted while the investigation continues. A Sig Alert has been issued and motorists traveling in this area should expect delays and heavy traffic congestion.
The road restrictions are expected to be in place through late morning, June 11, 2015. The restrictions and closures are as follows:
– Eastbound Alton Parkway is closed at Technology East
– Westbound Alton is reduced to one lane from Jeronimo Road through the intersection
– Southbound Barranca is closed at Ada
– Northbound Barranca is reduced to one lane and traffic will make a forced-right at Alton Parkway
Motorists are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes until the roadways are reopened. Alternate routes may include Bake Parkway, Lake Forest Drive, Irvine Boulevard, or Irvine Center Drive.
