Subject: Fatal Traffic Collision Investigation (UPDATED)

This afternoon, the driver involved in the fatal collision was identified as 18-year-old, Michael Kwame Kwabi of Irvine.
The Irvine Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred this morning just before 7:00 a.m. at the intersection of Orchard Hills and Wolf Trail.
An Infinity Q45, driven by an adult male struck the signal pole on the southwest corner of the intersection. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other passengers.
The Irvine Police Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is currently investigating the cause and details surrounding the collision. The Orange County Coroner’s Office will be conducting an investigation into the cause of death.
A segment of Orchard Hills will be closed for the duration of the investigation. Alternate routes for area residents are available.
The driver’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
