IRVINE, CA (March 26, 2014): Last night, Irvine Police Detectives arrested Joseph Anguiano (7/9/88) for child annoyance, after he approached a 12-year-old girl who was walking in a residential area. Anguiano stepped into the girl’s path as she emerged from a walkway connecting two streets, Brookstone and Woodland, in the Woodbridge area of Irvine. An undercover detective who had been surveilling Anguiano approached on foot to intervene at which time Anguiano changed direction and walked away. During his brief encounter with the girl, Anguiano asked her age and for directions to an area elementary school. The girl responded with incorrect information because she knew from presentations police officers had made at her school that she should never reveal facts about herself to strangers. When she pointed the wrong direction regarding the location of the elementary school, Anguiano corrected her, indicating he already knew the correct direction. The detective’s immediate presence interrupted the contact and Anguiano left the area. He was followed by additional undercover detectives and was contacted a short time later.
On March 11, after one in a series of Child Annoyances, the Irvine Police Department obtained and released additional suspect and vehicle descriptions. Based on tips received from the public, Anguiano was identified as a possible suspect.
Anguiano was arrested for the child annoyance that occurred on March 25 and booked into the Orange County Jail. Search warrants were executed last night at his residence and early this morning on his vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation into his possible involvement in the prior incidents.
Throughout this investigation, the Irvine Police Department has received outstanding support and partnership from the Community, the Irvine Unified School District and the Orange County District Attorney’s office.
