On Dec. 12, former Irvine Mayor Mike Ward died at his home. He had been suffering from ALS, known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Mike was one of the first Irvine leaders I sought out when I decided to get involved in Irvine politics and he provided important guidance for me. He was a smart, wise, compassionate leader and he will be dearly missed by many. My prayers go to his wife Teri and his family.
This past summer, the Irvine City Council renamed Woodbridge Community Park after the longtime public servant. It is now known as Mike Ward Community Park – Woodbridge. Mike served as Mayor from 1992-96 and as a councilmember from 1996-2004.
