Hanukkah is a celebration of religious freedom. It commemorates what happened over 2,000 years ago when the Jewish people restored the Holy Temple in Jerusalem after defeating the Assyrians. After their victory when they were ready to begin religious services, they could only find a tiny jar of pure oil to burn in the menorah, only enough for one day. Miraculously, the oil burned for eight days.
