The Irvine Meals on Wheels program, which provides hot, nutritious meals to Irvine’s homebound seniors and disabled individuals, is looking for donations and volunteers for its annual holiday fundraising campaign. Since July, about $3,000 of the $40,000 goal has been raised to cover food costs next year.
For every $10 donation, a homebound senior in Irvine can receive three sugar-free, low-fat meals in one day. A whole week is $50. More than 80 percent of Irvine Meals on Wheels clients live at or below the poverty level, and rely on the home-delivered meal program to meet their basic food needs.
Volunteers are also needed to prepare and package food at the Lakeview Senior Center or to serve as community drivers.
Donations are tax deductible, and gifts can made as one-time or recurring donations. Corporate matching opportunities are available.
