The Irvine Police Department is urging residents to drop off expired or unneeded medications for disposal on Saturday, October 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There will be two collection sites. One at the Irvine Civic Center, One Civic Center Plaza, Irvine, 92606 and the other at Kaiser Permanente Irvine Medical Center, 6670 Alton Pkwy, Irvine, 92618 (southeast corner of Alton/Sand Canyon, near Medical Office Building #1). The public may drop off their medications free and anonymously during those hours.
According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, prescription medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Also, improper disposal of these medicines, including flushing them down the toilet, can be unhealthy for the environment.
