I5/Ortega Interchange Improvement Project Update for Aug. 11 – 17
Crews successfully demolished the south half of the Ortega Highway bridge over the I-5 freeway on Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3. Crews will work to rebuild the bridge for approximately one year. Once complete, traffic will be switched to the newly constructed south half of the bridge and crews will work to demolish and rebuild the north half of the bridge.
The final lane configuration on the completed bridge will be two through lanes and two left-turn lanes to the southbound I-5 on-ramp when traveling westbound, and three through lanes and one right turn lane to the northbound I-5 loop on-ramp when traveling eastbound.

Lane Reductions:
- Lane reduction on the southbound I-5 freeway between Junipero Serra Road and Camino Capistrano
- Lane closures nightly, Monday, 8/12 through Thursday, 8/15 between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
- Lane reduction on the northbound I-5 freeway between Camino Capistrano and Junipero Serra Road
- Lane closures nightly, Wednesday 8/14 and Thursday, 8/15 between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
