FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, PRESS RELEASE #6/23/2013
IRVINE, CA (June 23, 2013): Irvine police officers have arrested Jesse Jet Brooks (11-9-1983) for assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, evading officers and vehicle burglary. His associate, Annette Soyinthisane (1-27-1987) has also been arrested for providing false identification to officers.
This morning, at approximately 8:15 a.m., officers responded to a report of a suspicious man who was checking car door handles in the underground parking garage of 2300 Dupont Drive. As officers arrived, they witnessed Brooks in the process of committing a vehicle burglary. As they approached to confront him, he fled and was able to get to a vehicle which he then drove toward officers. One officer, fearing for his life, fired one handgun round at the suspect. The suspect was not struck by the round. Brooks continued to drive, forcing his vehicle between a patrol car and a block wall to escape the parking garage. As he entered the roadway on Dupont Drive, he was immediately pursued by additional officers arriving in the area.
During a short, high-speed pursuit, the suspect drove into opposing lanes of Jamboree Road. Officers paralleled the suspect on the correct side of the roadway. The suspect drove into an apartment community on Via Lucca and abandoned his vehicle after colliding with a wall just outside an underground parking lot that was secured by a gate. The suspect fled into the complex on foot and contacted a resident claiming to need assistance due to a traffic collision. The resident allowed him in to use the phone.
Additional officers flooded the area and set up a perimeter. At approximately 8:45 a.m., Brooks was arrested as he left the apartment. Twenty minutes later, Soyinthisane arrived at the Via Lucca location in a taxi. Detectives believe she was summoned to the area by Brooks to assist in his escape. She was arrested without incident after falsely identifying herself to officers.
The pair had been staying together at a nearby hotel for the past two days. Evidence of fraudulent activity and stolen property were located at the hotel. Detectives believe the recovered property and paperwork is from crimes in Orange and San Diego counties including recent Irvine vehicle burglaries.
Brooks was arrested for assault on a Peace Officer with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, evading officers, vehicle burglary and a no bail assault warrant issued in San Diego County. Soyinthisane was arrested for providing false identification to officers. Both suspects are expected to be booked into the Orange County Jail later this afternoon.
