Free forum focuses on the benefits of using technology-based solutions to enhance learning and communication skills
IRVINE, CA (April 25, 2013): The City of Irvine will host a free “Autism Education: Understanding and Teaching the Visual Learner with Technology” forum for educators, therapists and other professionals on Thursday, May 9 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Irvine Civic Center, 1 Civic Center Plaza, Irvine.
Presented by Dr. Howard Shane, a pioneer in augmentative and alternative communication from Harvard Medical School and founder of Children’s Hospital, Boston’s Autism Language Program, the presentation will focus on the benefits of using technology-based solutions to enhance learning and communication skills for children on the autism spectrum.
Based on current research, Dr. Shane will discuss his Visual Immersion Program, including technologies for children who have expressive communication difficulty; visual tools to increase children’s understanding of language; and apps that use symbols and pictures to create daily schedules and the sequence for learning activities for children on the autism spectrum.
