Celebrate Earth Day by joining the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County on Sunday, April 21, 2013, from 1-2:30 p.m., as a volunteer to help plant, harvest and weed growing grounds at the Incredible Edible Park, at 15058 Harvard Ave. in Irvine.
About Second Harvest Food Bank:
Second Harvest Food Bank works to eliminate hunger in Orange County. The Food Bank solicits and coordinates donations, grants, fundraising, food drives, food rescue, harvesting and volunteers to supply food, education and advocacy for the hungry through non-profit partners and direct feeding programs. The Food Bank constantly seeks innovative cost effective ways to reach people.
The Food Bank currently serves over 470 member charities that reach the hungry, including church pantries, shelters, senior centers, rehabilitation centers, homes for abused women and children and many other emergency assistance organizations. Since its founding, the Food Bank has provided more than 272 million pounds of donated and surplus food to local charities. The Food Bank helps feed more than 240,000 individuals each month with help of its member charities. The clients served include the working poor, children, seniors on fixed incomes, single parents, the disabled, the homeless and individuals experiencing medical emergencies or recent job layoffs.
