Irvine Council Member Larry Agran spent about $468,500 of his own money and still lost the mayor’s seat to Steven Choiby nearly 4,000 votes, according to Frank Mickadeit over at the O.C. Register.
That is a lot of money! How Agran was able to come up with all of that is a good question. He is a lawyer by trade and apparently he teaches on occasion at various colleges. So how has he amassed a fortune so large that he could blow threw almost half a million dollars last year in a quest to become the Mayor of Irvine again?
I can only surmise that Agran and his Council ally Beth Krom, have benefited over the years from inside information that they have accrued as Council Members of Orange County’s center of Tech and Finance. Think about it. Agran and Krom have no doubt found out about all sorts of investment opportunities as longtime members of the Irvine City Council. Clearly they have made the system work for them.
