Who: The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) are partnering together to warn residents of the potential dangers of fireworks and illegal explosives this Fourth of July holiday and to promote fireworks safety.

What: OCFA and OCSD will discuss fireworks regulations and safety. “Safe and Sane” fireworks are illegal in most Orange County cities, only eight cities allow them. If fireworks are allowed in their city, residents must comply with that city’s regulations and use the fireworks only in the timeframe allowed, within those cities. Fireworks safety tips will be discussed because of their volatile mix that can cause severe personal injuries and property damage if used incorrectly. Continue reading→

Korean Book Collection Donated to OC Public Libraries

(Irvine, CA) — The Orange County Board of Supervisors has accepted a generous gift of 7,500 Korean language books for the OC Public Libraries with a value of $52,500.

The donation is thanks to a collaborative partnership between The Orange County Korean Cultural Center, Irvine Mayor Steven Choi, and the Irvine Korean Cultural Festival Committee. The books will be distributed to three library branches in Irvine—Heritage Park, University Park and the Katie Wheeler branch library—as well as other branches in the OC Public Libraries system.

“I am so delighted that the OC Public Libraries has accepted these books donated by the Orange County Korean Cultural Center,” Mayor Choi said. “We appreciate the library accepting the books and making them available. OC Public Libraries Hosting Young Authors’ Faire Tomorrow

From 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 10, 2014, OC Public Libraries and the Orange County Department of Education will be hosting the 13th Annual Young Authors’ Faire. This event will showcase original works by Orange County students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

OCTA considers designating Great Park’s roads as arterial roads

At the request of Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Vice Chairman Jeffrey Lalloway and Director Todd Spitzer, OCTA is considering designating Marine Way, Trabuco Road, and the future O Street as arterial roads.

“An arterial designation allows a stretch of road to be eligible for additional federal funding,” OCTA Director Todd Spitzer said. “Arterials are our major roads that provide for the movement of our residents from home, to work, to school, and to stores.” Continue reading→

Public Encouraged to Attend Unveiling Reception for OC Crime Victims’ Memorial Finalist Designs on Wednesday

The public is invited to the unveiling reception for the five finalists for the design of the Orange County Crime Victims’ Memorial. The unveiling will show design documents in plan and elevation view and logo designs for the five finalists for the first time. The unveiling reception will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Old Orange County Courthouse, 211 W. Santa Ana Blvd., Santa Ana.

New All-Electronic Tolling to Be Implemented on 73, 133, 241, and 261

The Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) will be implementing all-electronic tolling on the four toll roads it operates: the 73, 133, 241, and 261. All-electronic tolling will eliminate the need for toll booths.

“This new technology removing toll booths will allow people to move smoothly and unimpeded on the toll roads,” TCA Board Member Todd Spitzer said. “As more and more people use credit cards and online banking, cash and toll booths are becoming a thing of the past.” Continue reading→

Christmas Eve Clothes and Blanket Donations to Civic Center Homeless

(Santa Ana, CA) – Orange County Supervisor Todd Spitzer is teaming up with OC Community Services/Homeless Prevention and the Orange County Health Care Agency to distribute 120 sets of clothing and blankets donated by a generous 3rd District anonymous constituent to homeless individuals on Christmas Eve.

Breaking: Supervisors Reject Underage Drinking Law
