Due to an increase in bicycle thefts, Irvine PD officers have been placing “bait” bikes, equipped with a GPS locator, in different locations throughout the City of Irvine.
At 8:49 a.m. on Saturday morning, the GPS tracker on one of the bait bikes was activated in the area of Barranca Parkway and Paseo Westpark. IPD Dispatch coordinated with officers to provide the updated location of the stolen bicycle.
An adult male and female were contacted in the area driving a Ford Fusion and the stolen bicycle was recovered from the back of the vehicle.
The suspects were arrested and booked at Orange County Jail for grand theft.
