Irvine Fine Arts Center to present Near art exhibition

IRVINE, CA (Nov. 10, 2015): The Irvine Fine Arts Center will feature three Southern California artists in Near, a contemporary exhibition that runs Nov. 21 through Jan. 23. A free opening reception will be held Nov. 21 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Near displays the work of Southern California artists Sophia Allison, Sarah Dougherty and Brittany Mojo. The exhibition offers a look at art practices driven by artists’ physical and emotional interactions with their immediate surroundings, from everyday objects to landscapes and domestic spaces. The exhibition includes ceramics, drawing, painting, mixed media and installation. Continue reading→

Irvine’s Civic Center to become a Winter Wonderland on Dec. 6

IRVINE, CA (Nov. 12, 2015): Celebrate the season as the Irvine Civic Center transforms into a Winter Wonderland on Sunday, Dec. 6 from 5-8 p.m.

The City’s newest event will feature a 25-foot-tall tree adorned with ornaments and holiday lights; a Joyful Jingles holiday concert; children’s activities; and train rides. Guests can enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and a festive tree-lighting as “snow” gently falls over the piazza. Children are in for a special treat when Santa stops by for a visit. Continue reading→

Halloween Zoo-tacular at the OC Zoo set for Oct. 31

OC Parks is pleased to present the annual Halloween Zoo-tacular at the OC Zoo located inside Irvine Regional Park on Saturday, October 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Families are invited to partake in a fun-filled spooky day of activities with the animals of the OC Zoo.

At Halloween Zoo-tacular, guests ages 12 and under will trick-or-treat through the zoo and take part in a spooky scavenger hunt. Kids of all ages can create Halloween and fall-themed crafts and enjoy games and a photo/selfie spot with fun props. The OC Zoo animals will participate in the fun and receive treat-filled pumpkins and special Halloween goodies throughout the day. On October 31, the first 100 children ages 12 and under that visit the OC Zoo in costume will receive a special free holiday surprise. Continue reading→

Sea Scouts to Hold Candlelight Procession to Save Dana Point Harbor Park

Youth group to publicize campaign to keep Harbor Park from becoming commercialized for private use

Dana Point, CA – The Sea Scouts Mariners Ship 936 is planning a candlelight procession at the Dana Point Harbor on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, to educate the public about a potential Request for Proposal (RFP) from the Orange County Board of Supervisors. The potential RFP would privatize a public park space used in the Dana Point Harbor that the Sea Scouts and other community groups use. The Sea Scouts plan to be in full dress uniform.

Led by adult volunteer Jim “Skip” Wehan, a retired math teacher who has been dedicated for more than 40 years to teaching young people sailing and nautical skills, the Sea Scouts would be among the hardest hit by the potential RFP. The Sea Scouts are a co-ed program of the Boy Scouts of America that helps young people develop leadership, citizenship, and character in a high-adventure maritime program. As a non-profit group, they – like the others – currently pay less to lease the public harbor space than a business and would be unable to continue if the park is commercialized or run by a private company. Friends of Orange County’s Homeless Pets (FOCHP) Preps for 6th Annual Walk 4 Rescues

Bark in the park before dark event to support dogs (and cats) in need of adoption

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 20, 2015 – Friends of Orange County’s Homeless Pets (FOCHP), one of Southern California’s most notable and respected animal welfare and adoption organizations, has announced its 2015 Walk 4 Rescues. The sixth annual installment of the popular fundraiser, sponsored again this year by North Tustin Veterinary Clinic, will be held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 11 at Irvine’s bucolic Mason Regional Park and promises to be a rewarding and fun-filled day for hundreds of four-legged pets and their two-legged owners.

Irvine, CA – The Irvine Police Department (IPD) will be participating in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day this Saturday, September 26, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
