IRVINE, Calif. (March 5, 2021): After the success of the initial vaccine clinic hosted by the City of Irvine and MemorialCare February 19, the City and the hospital extended their alliance and held another COVID-19 vaccine clinic for Irvine senior citizens.
The vaccine clinic took place Friday, March 5, at Lakeview Senior Center. A total of 200 seniors aged 65 and over received the COVID-19 vaccine. Appointments were required and will remain necessary for any future clinics. The City has nearly 28,000 seniors aged 65 and over, and will continue to partner with MemorialCare and other health care providers until all are vaccinated against the coronavirus.
“My COVID-19 Task Force initiatives continue to flourish and bring highly sought after vaccines to the City of Irvine,” said Mayor Farrah N. Khan. “I will continue to leverage these partnerships with the intent to protect the health and well-being of the entire Irvine community. Due to the strength of these collaborations, I look forward to moving our City into the next phase of vaccine distribution with the ultimate goal of vaccinating the entire Irvine population.”
City staff managed the logistics of the vaccination site at Lakeview Senior Center by registering seniors for vaccine appointments, providing transportation to homebound residents, and overseeing the operation. MemorialCare supplied and administered the COVID-19 vaccines to Irvine citizens.
“MemorialCare is honored to partner with the City of Irvine to administer COVID-19 vaccines to the city’s most vulnerable population,” said Dr. Mark Schafer, CEO of MemorialCare Medical Group & Greater Newport Physicians. “We are excited to be able to continue our vaccination efforts in partnership with the City of Irvine in the coming weeks.”
