A deputy-involved shooting occurred today in the city of Lake Forest at approximately 5 p.m.
At approximately 4:15 p.m. deputies responded to reports of a man with a weapon and wearing a costume mask running outside the Wal-Mart in the 26000 block of Town Centre Dr. in the city of Foothill Ranch. When deputies arrived, the suspect had fled the area.
Multiple other callers reported a man matching the suspect’s description with a weapon in a residential neighborhood near Angela Street in the city of Lake Forest. Deputies encountered the suspect in the neighborhood and began to chase the suspect. During the chase, the suspect entered a residence and assaulted a woman inside of the residence.
Additional deputies responding to the area encountered the suspect near the corner of Kathy Avenue and Hoi Circle in the city of Lake Forest. A deputy-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was injured as a result of the shooting and taken to a local hospital. His condition is unknown at this time. No deputies were injured.
At this time, there are no additional suspects and no immediate threat to the community.
Per protocol, the investigation of the deputy-involved shooting will be handled by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
