Jeremy Osso, a 39-year old University High School football coach, has pleaded guilty of trying to communicate with someone he believed to be a minor for sex, according to the O.C. Register.
Osso copped a plea to a felony count of sending harmful matter with the intention of seducing a minor earlier this month, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.
Authorities alleged that Osso had communicated with a San Diego-based detective from an Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force who was posing as a girl.
At the time Osso was a defensive coordinator for University High School’s varsity football team. He was also an instructional assistant at Irvine High School. He was placed on administrative leave from these jobs when he was arrested, which barred him from coaching or contacting students.
Osso’s case did not involve any actual minors. As such additional criminal charges tied to allegations of attempting to solicit child pornography were dropped by the prosecutor.
Osso is still on leave pending the final outcome of his charges, according to the Irvine Unified School District.
Osso resides in Costa Mesa. He was a head football coach at Costa Mesa High School from 2006 to 2011.
Osso is set to be sentenced at a court in San Diego on Sep. 13.
