Irvine, CA – The Irvine Police Department is reminding motorists to Click It or Ticket as part of the national seat belt enforcement campaign. Law enforcement agencies around the country will be conducting increased enforcement between May 18, 2015, and May 31, 2015, to educate motorists and passengers and enforce seat belt laws.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 21,000 victims were killed in 2013 in vehicle crashes, 500 of whom were in California. For those crashes occurring between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., more than half of the deaths were victims who were not restrained with seat belts. Almost twice as many males were killed than females in crashes.
A component of the Click It or Ticket campaign will focus on nighttime enforcement.
For more information on the Click It or Ticket mobilization, please visit www.nhtsa.gov/ciot.
