IRVINE, CA (November 10, 2014): For the tenth consecutive year, the City of Irvine has reported the lowest per capita violent crime rate in the nation for cities greater than 100,000 in population. Irvine also recorded its lowest per capita violent crime rate in the City’s history.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation published its Annual Uniform Crime Report today, Nov. 10, 2014, for Part 1 crime reported January through December 2013. Part 1 crimes include murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, auto theft and arson.
“Our city is an example of excellence in many ways. Nothing is more important than public safety,” said Mayor Steven S. Choi. “I am so pleased with the latest results, and so honored to be Mayor of Irvine at this important moment. It is remarkable to achieve this distinction for 10 straight years. I thank our police department for their diligence, our City Council for their leadership, our other city staff for their work, and our good citizens.”
“This is really great news for our community,” said Irvine Police Chief David Maggard. “This is clearly a city-wide effort, and I am most grateful for the incredible work of the men and women of the Irvine Police Department.”
