An 81-year-old Newport Beach man identified as Ellis Bryant was killed in a car crash in Irvine early Friday, police said. Bryant was turning into a parking lot near Michelson and University drives about 7:30 a.m. when his car was struck by vehicle westbound on University, according to Irvine police Lt. Tom Allan, as reported by the Newport vBeach/Coronado Del Mar Patch.
Although the cause of the accident is still under investigation, preliminary reports show that the 81-year-old was turning into a parking lot near the intersection when he was struck by a car going westbound on University Drive, according to the Daily Pilot.
After the crash about 6:45 a.m., the 34-year old driver of a second car was taken to Western Medical Center Santa Ana, where it was determined that he had suffered moderate injuries, said Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority, according to the O.C. Register.
