Charity Golf Tournament Raised Over $8,000 to Send OC Pediatric Cancer Patients and Families to Camp – 9/17
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
IRVINE, CA—In support of weekend camps for families facing pediatric cancer, the Orange County Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators (OC-ALA) hosted “Driving for Campers with Cancer,” a golf tournament fundraiser which raised over $8,000 for charity, on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Oak Creek Golf Course located at 1 Golf Club Drive in Irvine, CA. The golf tournament, silent auction and dinner benefited the Orange County Foundation for Oncology Children and Families (OCF-OCF), a non-profit, grassroots, strictly volunteer organization, with a 20-year history of providing support activities at no cost to pediatric cancer patients and their families who live or receive treatment in Orange County, as part of the OC-ALA Community Connection program, a community service initiative that encourages the legal community to work together for local causes.

Around 125 OC-ALA chapter members and business partners participated in the day’s events, featuring OCF-OCF former executive directors Karen Jones, of Lake Forest, and Neil Barbour, of Santa Ana, who spoke to say thank you and to deliver a message of how the support of the community makes a difference for the OCF-OCF kids. Both Jones and Barbour are parents of children with cancer, both diagnosed in early childhood and now both in their college years.
OC-ALA Board President Connie Jedrzejewski was inspired to support the family camps after her husband David lost his battle with colon cancer in 2009. Says Jedrzejewski, “It is an honor for OC-ALA to support the Orange County Foundation for Oncology Children and Families. I know firsthand the importance of quality family time with a loved one battling cancer and I am proud that OC-ALA can give assistance to these families.”

OCF-OCF’s weekend-long camps in the San Bernardino Mountains give patients and their families facing the stress of cancer the opportunity to unwind and connect with others facing similar situations through activities including horseback riding, archery, crafts and a ropes course. “It can be very powerful to bring people together like that,” says Barbour.
“Driving for Campers with Cancer” schedule of events included a 3:30 p.m. Shotgun Start, a 6:00 p.m. Cocktail Hour with appetizers and silent auction and a 7:00 p.m. Dinner and Celebration.
