Outpouring of Community Support in the Search for Lost Hikers
TRABUCO CANYON, California (April 2, 2013) – There has been a tremendous outpouring of support from community members as the search continues in the Cleveland National Forest for two hikers missing since Sunday evening, March 31st. Many individuals concerned for the well-being of the missing hikers have taken it upon themselves to assist with the search efforts.
The Sheriff’s Department urges any individuals that want to contribute to the search effort to be prepared, be safe and have a plan. When hiking in wilderness areas, be prepared for the unexpected. Tell family and friends what your plans are and provide a list of who will be going with you. Wear appropriate shoes, bring plenty of water and food, have a map/compass/GPS, fully charge your mobile phone, pack a whistle and a flashlight. Nicholas Cendoya, 19, and Kyndall Jack, 18, both of Costa Mesa have been missing since Sunday evening. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of these two individuals are urged to call the Orange County Sheriff’s Department at (714) 647-7000.
