IRVINE, CA (March 7, 2013): The City of Irvine and Irvine 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee are accepting items through April 1 for care packages to be delivered in May to Marines returning from Afghanistan. In 2007, the City adopted the 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 2/11 from Camp Pendleton. Each year, the Committee prepares packages for nearly 175 of the battalion’s single Marines, many of whom return to empty barracks and no family to welcome them home.
The public is encouraged to donate towels, washcloths and men’s body wash/shower gel (AXE and Dove brands are preferred as all Marines returning this May are male). Welcome home notes and cards are also encouraged. Drop off locations include: Irvine Civic Center, Orange County Great Park Visitor Center and Woodbridge Village Association (31 Creek Road). Items delivered after April 1 will be used for other Committee events.
