IRVINE, CA (March 19, 2014): This afternoon, Irvine police detectives arrested Carlos Oropeza Cortez (12-28-1985) for commercial burglary. Cortez is believed to be responsible for the burglaries of nine Irvine grocery stores. The burglaries occurred over the past 1-month period and were all thefts of alcohol totaling over $2,000. Detectives believe the alcohol was resold by Cortez.
Loss prevention personnel at the victim locations are credited with compiling information accurate descriptions of the suspect and burglaries which they shared with regional law enforcement agencies and other area retailers. As a result, a detective from the Tustin Police Department recognized Cortez from their information and was able to assist in his identification.
Today, Irvine Police Detectives located Cortez at his home in Santa Ana where he was arrested without incident and later booked into the Orange County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail. Cortez was released in early February into the Post Release Community Supervision program (PRCS).
